Preparing for Spring Festival - Chinese New Year
We were kindly invited by Odar and his wife Cathy to a feast which marks the beginning of the celebrations for Spring Festival here in Yangshuo-China. Me and my friends Peggy and Bethany were greeted by the loud bangs of the firecrackers and plenty of cameramen. I watched in awe as four girls dressed up as Chinese dragons put their balancing skills to practice to the beat of the drum and the clashing of the cymbals ! The Dragon Dance was well appreciated by the entire audience. Me, Peggy and Bethany had such a laugh giving the instruments a go ourselves !
I must admit I wasnt exactly looking forward to the slaughter of the pig which also marks the beginning of the Spring Festival celebrations. It turned out that I found it all very interesting as I witnessed the entire process until it landed on my plate. Needless to say the food was delicious and it was my idea of heaven as I sat outside eating lunch surrounded by the beautiful mountains of Yangshuo. We all rushed to the river to watch the Cormorant Fishing in action which was also very interesting. Everybody I met was so friendly and it was also very nice to meet Billy, Odar's brother and his son for the first time.
I would like to thank Odar and his wife Cathy for inviting me. I thoroughly enjoyed another day here in Yangshuo！
